The workshop Permaculture on-the-go! is an learning immersion in a segment of permaculture. It includes a theoretical introduction to Permaculture, followed by intensive practical classes focused on a specific topic.
So you can have an idea, we have Permaculture on-the-go with Natural Building, or with Food Gardens, or with Forest Maintenance, etc…

This workshop is the Permaculture on-the-go! with Natural Building.

Lectured by Mário Silva with the Alma com Alma team. Mário is a certified Permaculture designer, co-responsible for the permaculture strategy and design of Quinta Alma – Permaculture Farm. Mario has rich and diversified background, ranging from international business management to being a recycling solutions inventor and entrepreneur. Jack of many trades, Mario is also trained in design and architecture, carpentry and more recently cob building. The Alma com Alma team, with different backgrounds and experience in permaculture, runs Quinta Alma Permaculture Farm, where this workshop is hosted.

This workshop is designed to introduce anyone interested in Permaculture that also has a specific interest in Natural Building. Students will learn the history and the general principles of permaculture just then to dive into a practical learning process of building with soil, hay, sand and other related materials.

In practical terms, we will build an ecological efficient fridge building. This Cob Fridge will serve to preserve fruits and vegetables with very little to no energy input.
We will also participate in the transformation process of a wooden shelter into a tiny cob house building.

During this workshop we will use different cob building techniques, such as adobe and light straw, and earth plasters.

On top of this pedagogical component, for 11 days you will be co-living in our community, sharing the daily life, meals and part of the routine.
You have different options in terms of meals and accommodation, to match what better suits you.
The daily work load is of 5 hours and there will be one free day in the middle of the workshop duration. In total, this is a 50 hour workshop, with 5 days of training, 1 free day and another 5 days of training.

This is the opportunity to learn through participation in a real permaculture working-living community.

The workshop will take place at the off-the-grid Ecological Retreat Farm Quinta Alma, in Aljezur.

This workshop has a limited number of places, with a maximum of 4 participants.

Duration 11 days, 5 hours per day

Hours: 8:30 am to 13:30 pm.

Breakfast and vegetarian lunch with the team are optional. Dinner is not available but you have a communal kitchen in the Food Temple to prepare your meals.

Accommodation: camping with your own tent or caravan is free.
You can also choose to stay in one of our shelters, in shared or individual rooms.

Free Wi-Fi, warm showers, lake where you can swim, amazing landscape.

The Permaculture Material we offer was originally developed by Bill Mollison, co-founder of permaculture, to teach the principles and ethics for sustainable design.

The natural building part of the course is basically all practical. With a hands-on approach, you will learn by doing and the reward through the process.

Topics to be covered in this workshop:

• Permaculture principles and ethics;
• Living off the grid challenges and solutions;
• Soil observation. Identifying different types of soil. Soil preparation for building;
• Cob Building technics in theory.
• Learning with practice.

Who is Mario?

Registration

Tuition fee of 250€ for the workshop with self accommodation in your own tent or caravan. All common structures, warm showers, toilets and Wi-Fi included in the price.

Price 200€ for the shared accommodation in one of Quinta Alma’ shelters with private toilets. Private accommodation available on request.

Price 150€ for the breakfast and lunch (with the team) during the 11 days of the workshop.

Payment conditions:

• A 50% deposit on the total price is necessary to confirm the registration.
• The total price includes the tuition fee, the accommodation and the meals requested.
• The deposit is refundable for cancellations made by email until 60 days before the event starts.
• The remaining balance due is paid on site.
